Parrot Rehabilitation
SAFEHAVEN NEEDS YOU!
Would you like to become a Safe House or Area-Coordinator for Safehaven Parrot Refuge?
You will be required to have a home check, please note that this requires a homecheck in which you will need to pass, you will also need to become a member of Safehaven.
Safehaven Parrot Refuge does not have a central base and instead is operated from the homes of many amazing volunteers across the United Kingdom. We do not offer any voluntary work whereby you can ‘visit us’ to help out with the birds.
THERE ARE 2 MAIN VOLUNTEERING ROLES WITHIN SAFEHAVEN
Area-Coordinator (ACO):
To become an ACO you will need:
The responsibilities of an ACO:
- Access to a printer
- A member of Facebook (to be a part of our groups)
- A vehicle in which you can collect birds and their cages.
- An Avian vet preferably in your area
- You will need to have access to the internet to view relevant documents and potential adoptees.
- Collecting and transporting Safehaven birds as and when needed
- To assess the birds in your care that have been donated to Safehaven. This will help us place them to the right home. In addition to this, providing Safe Housed birds with veterinary care if required.
- To carry out home checks in person or via video call, ensuring that you and the other party are as honest as possible. We will require your judgement, as well as our own (from what you will have completed on the paperwork), to decide whether we will rehome a bird or birds to the interviewee.
- To communicate with other team members and keep all charity information recorded and updated, ensuring all relevant paperwork is filled out correctly and sent off to our admin.
- Due to DPA requirements you will need to sign a confidentiality agreement.

All safehousers have the option to apply for long term fostering along side other candidates.
Do you want to be a part of Safehaven Parrot Refuge, but can't look after Parrots?
Alternatively, if, for any reason, you are unable to look after any birds but still want to be a part of the magic - then we have other roles within the refuge! Such as becoming part of the admin team or help with fund raising for the charity. What does the admin team do?
- Moderate the public Facebook groups
- Actively posts and communicates with others via the Instagram page
- Takes calls and responds accordingly
- Ensures all information is recorded correctly and efficiently on our databases.
