Safehavens New Refuge Aviary

We are so proud of the completion of our latest spacious aviary, enabling rescued aviary birds the chance to live out their lives in a spacious, natural environment. The project was started in spring 2008, just after the worsed of the weather had passed over. It was constructed with the grateful help of local Safehaven members and farmers with heavy plant and equipment.
The project took two years to complete and measures about 50ft x 25ft, and is about 20ft high.

The aviary contains plenty of trees and perches, and a huge supply of rope has gone into it’s construction, giving the birds their much needed stimulation.
The ground is all turf with total mesh underfloor, to deter rodents and foxes, and our local spring overflow has been diverted, to run through the middle of it, providing a continuous supply of fresh water.
The aviary was opened for the birds in March 2010. And I think you’ll find they approve.
