Alf was an imported bird and very much loved by his previous owner who reluctantly had to part with him. His wife had a baby and her mother-in-law was convinced that ALf would pass psittacosis onto the baby.

Alf was assumed to be male, despite having presented herself to Elwood in a most unladylike fashion for years! However, a few years ago mating took place and Alf presented us with an egg, which hatched into baby Gem.(Unfortunately Gem died in early 2001 from a viral infection , which took three other SPR birds as well.)

Alf was a perfect mother and she is a very gentle Macaw who loves playing with her toys.
